点评:This is a difficult review. I plopped down $135 for myself (71) and two grandsons (11 and 8) to enjoy the zip lines. The staff was friendly and courteous and the grounds attractively maintained. Clean restrooms too.
What I didn't know was that to arrive at any of the zip lines one must negotiate a military style obstacle course. And while there are helpful young people milling around to assist, users are pretty much on their own when it comes to hooking themselves (for safety) to the lines, alone, on a platform perched high among the trees.
I was disappointed to realize at the first climb that I had to make it up spaced logs set at about a 45° angle. My balance is not what it used to be; very quickly I realized it was unsafe for me to continue. The 8-year-old freaked over the obstacle course and never made it past the initial log climb. God bless the 11-year-old: He made it past three obstacle course stations and had one good zip line experience then declared he was done.
It was the most expensive 20 minutes of our vacation.
Zip lines we are accustomed to involve a shallow incline hike up to a high spot where a nice fellow helps you into a harness and off you go gleefully sailing through the atmosphere.
For us, our morning at Sandy River was a disaster. We will not return, though I noted that the several dozen Longwood University students in our group were having a noisy good time.
