For someone who ‘wasn’t into history’, I’m completely converted.

点评：I’ve never done a guided tour before. I’ve also never really considered myself someone who is particularly interested in history, but Cam completely changed that for me.
What an incredibly fascinating ADVENTURE this was - note the emphasis on adventure! Cam is wonderful. He has a voice made for bedtime stories, throws in the occasional joke to lighten the mood, and introduces you to deeply layered histories and heritage through storytelling.
Cam walks with a big tote bag filled with all kinds of books, and at almost every stop, he pulls one out - whether to show you an image of what a place once looked like or to read a passage from a writer describing the lives and experiences connected to it. It gives you such a rich, holistic understanding of place and time and somehow manages to transport you back there.
His knowledge is remarkable. He doesn’t simply tell you about the place you’re exploring, he constantly connects it to other places, people and moments in history, creating fascinating links you would never otherwise have considered. There is plenty of food for thought - and for dinner-table conversations afterwards.
I cannot recommend this more to tourists and locals alike. Especially locals. There is something so empowering about learning the stories of the places you live alongside and brush shoulders with every day, often without realising the depth of history that lies beneath them.
I walked away with a completely new curiosity for history and a desire to understand more about the places around me. I think CTHT may have sparked a whole new hobby.
