In NONE of these proactive communications was the International Driving Permit (IDP) mentioned as an OBLIGATORY requirement for non-EU licenses in Italy. Upon arrival, the car was denied solely due to the lack of the IDP, with AVIS citing only the Terms and Conditions. A company that reviews my license has the duty of care to warn me about this crucial requirement, instead of hiding it. AVIS flatly refused any refund, charging me the full €426.89 for their own communication failure. This omission caused the loss of museum and hotel reservations, immense stress, and emergency transport costs. AVIS prioritizes a 100% penalty over customer service. I paid for their lack of transparency.
