Buyer Beware of Snuba Upgrade

点评：We recently went on the Discover Molokini trip with Trilogy. While the crew was excellent and the boat experience itself was enjoyable, the SNUBA upgrade left us feeling misled and disappointed.
When booking directly with Trilogy, we paid $90 for the SNUBA upgrade, which was presented as the full cost. Once onboard, however, we were told we had to pay an additional $60 per person if we wanted to continue SNUBA diving at the second site. This extra charge was never disclosed on the website, during booking, or in the confirmation emails. When I raised this with Trilogy afterward, their explanation was that the second dive is “optional” and that they don’t disclose it because “very few people” choose it. The reality is that on our trip, every single guest who SNUBA’d ended up paying the extra $60 when it was sprung on us mid-excursion.
In practice, the true cost of SNUBA with Trilogy is not $90 as advertised, but $150 per person after taxes and fees. To make matters worse, Trilogy tried to justify this by saying the second dive was actually offered at a “courtesy” rate — that instead of charging us the full $90 again, they were only charging $60. Framing it as if they were doing us a favor, when the extra fee was never disclosed in the first place, only reinforced the bait-and-switch feeling.
Trilogy may provide a fun outing, but guests deserve honesty about pricing before stepping on board. Unfortunately, our experience showed that Trilogy is not upfront about the real cost of SNUBA. If you’re considering it, be prepared — the actual cost will be $150 per person, whether or not they disclose it beforehand.
