A gem of a place - kids had a great visit - go for eel feeding time!

点评：What a gem! We are visiting from the UK and thought this would be a speedy ‘tick’ on our mission to see Kiwis. We stayed longer than we thought having seen their sweet little kiwis and with a new love and knowledge of giant eels!
Our daughter (9) is a squeamish vegetarian and our son (11) very particular about what he touches and under the expert teaching and gentle encouragement from Karen they both ended up feeding the eels some beef and stroking them too! Karen taught us all about them and it was absolutely fascinating.
Please do time your visit to coincide with feeding time as it is a remarkable hands-on experience.
We also spent a long time fishing for crayfish, then releasing them (no harm done).
The kids loved the hunt to earn themselves a choccy fish; and Darren taught us about the two kiwis before we went in so we could spot which was which. No photos to be taken of the kiwis but Darren kindly gave the kids a photo each as we left.
We spent a very happy visit there. Thank you Karen and Darren - our daughter has decided she’d like to emigrate and come and work with you when she’s older!
