We visited Khonthong Elephant Sanctuary during our stay in Krabi and had a wonderful experience. There were just two elephants at the sanctuary during our visit, which helped the experience feel personal and not overcrowded.
The visit began with a walk up a hill to meet and feed the elephants before we helped prepare food for them. There were plenty of opportunities to take photos while still learning about the elephants and their care.
One of the highlights was helping to apply medicine to their skin and then bathing them. It was a fantastic opportunity to get close to these incredible animals in what appeared to be a respectful and ethical environment.
The sanctuary did not feel overly commercialised, which we appreciated. Instead, the focus seemed to be on education, conservation and the welfare of the elephants. The elephants appeared content and well cared for, and the staff were friendly and informative throughout the visit.
Overall, this was a memorable and educational experience that gave us a greater appreciation for these amazing animals. We would happily recommend Khonthong Elephant Sanctuary to anyone looking for an ethical elephant experience in Krabi. 🐘❤️
