点评:This is among the best aviation museums! The people who run this museum are so enthusiastic and have some brilliant plans for the future with new hangar space coming and the colossal Blackburn Beverley being reconstructed after being relocated here in bits.
Most of the aircraft exhibits are outdoors so it's best to visit on a fine day. Like most aviation museums the aircraft outside need a huge amount of work to keep them in good order; conservation and maintenance were going on during our visit but the volunteers were happy to break off and talk about their work which is paying off as their aircraft are better looked after than at many other similar museums.
It's many years since I was aboard an Avro Vulcan and it was a treat to be able to visit XJ823 and breathe in the smell of a late 20th century RAF aircraft. If the Vulcan isn't open, the Canberra still has the same unique smell! It's sad to see these wonderful old machines cold and static but at least people can visit them and, if they are old enough, remember the sight, sound and feeling of their incredible power.
The indoor displays are well presented and provide an insight into the UK's Cold War defences.
