点评:It was our first visit to the Regent and we were quite impressed by the facilities of this traditional theatre. The seats were comfortable and the view was good. The audience was predominantly female yet there were adequate toilets and the queue moved quickly. Parking is readily available and inexpensive.
Sadly we will not be going there again because despite it being in the “Cultural Quarter” we found Hanley to be a dismal run down town of empty premises, wind blown litter, piled up rubbish and evidence of rough sleeping. Even at 5.30 in the daylight it felt intimidating with groups of youths engaging in noisy horse play and intoxicated or drugged individuals shouting out across the street to each other. Arriving with a couple of hours to spare for an early dinner we walked around for 45 minutes and struggled to find somewhere pleasant to eat. If we had seen the Italian place across from the theatre this looked okay. We live in a fairly disadvantaged town ourselves so we are not comparing Hanley to Harrogate or Bath but it really has the air of the third world. For the price of the tickets it wasn’t a positive night out.
