点评:Cannot recommend this museum enough. Le Mayeur truly is only the last Impressionist painters. There are many, many paintings and drawings here. His exoticism obviously relates to a prior era, but is fascinating nonetheless. His impasto, particually in the 1920s, is quite robust, and the paintings here of the Middle East, Europe and Polynesia reflect another time of international travel and the lingering of 19th century imperialism (the small painting of the international festival, with flags of Germany, Japan, Switzlerand etc. prior to WW2 sums this up quite well) - although the obvious orientalising or whatever is also tempered by a genuine passion for the Balinese art and culture (indeed the museum was established on these principles). The museum is obviously in a state of disrepair, but this reflects partly disinterest from tourists as anything else. The roughly $10 AUD entry fee is reasonable, and people complaining here about it are the spiritual inspiration for the domination of voids such as Icon Mall nearby. The staff were very friendly. Please visit. It is a credit to the Balinese government that the Museum is still open daily. One hopes that a proper project of conservation could occur - the packets of silica gel demonstrate basic attempts at conservation (I am informed this is something of a standard, professional approach in the tropics - but that they were visibly clumped within view beneath pictures suggests that more input is needed).
