点评:While in Nusa Dua, Bali, I really enjoyed the Museum Pacifika where I was introduced to Adrien-Jean Le Mayeur’s stunning paintings from his time living in Bali. Even though I had read in other reviews that the artworks at the Le Mayeur Museum were in need of restoration, & they are, I wanted to see them & learn more about the artist’s life.
The Belgian artist Le Mayeur (1880 - 1958) lived with his Balinese wife & painted in Bali for most of his life from about age 51. The Museum is located in Sanur, by the seaside at his Balinese home that was also his studio. It was my first visit to Bali & this was also an opportunity to see a traditional Balinese home & beautiful small garden. The original Balinese wood carved windows & the frames on the paintings are stunning. Mayeur’s mostly oil paintings are a reflection of the time of his work & the influence of the impressionist artists that were working in Europe. Looking at his paintings at the two museums, I could see the influence of Monet, Van Gogh, & especially of Paul Gauguin.
You need not spend more than an hour here but this museum is a hidden treasure and is well worth a stop!
