点评：We had a customised tour spending three days with Romain following the diary of my father from June to August 1944. Not only was Romain a guide but he had a wonderful grasp of history and he shared this to give the personal diary a context. He had a binder full of maps and photographs from 1944. He had obtained a copy of the regimental war diary from the National Archive. This gave grid references to aid accuracy and taking us to exactly where my father would have been and often off the beaten track.
Romain had also down loaded audio from the Imperial War Museum of a man from Paisley who had served in the same regiment as my father. It was rather surreal driving through Normandy listening to the west coast Scottish accent but again this was a very relevant addition to our journey.
A special moment was when Romain drove up a dirt track to a farm. We got out of the car to be greeted by four lively dogs. After he explained the reason for our presence we were welcomed by madam who invited us in to meet her father. Her father was just ten when the allies, including my father’s regiment, arrived in 1944. The elderly man could recall the German occupation and showed us evidence of the shelling of an out building.
The whole three days was a wonderful immersive experience. This was an incredible tour. We would highly recommend Romain’s guiding service.
