点评:I really enjoyed the art, but I almost didn't get to experience it because I use a wheelchair. My husband and I came on Valentine's Day. On the website they warn that the elevator is not always in use, so I called ahead and was told that it was working that day. I was so excited to find accessible date night plans and we drove 40 minutes to get there, and I was very disappointed when the person at the front desk told me the elevator was out of service and I would not have access to the museum, except for a small area with some old newspapers. When I told her that we had called ahead, she said that it went out of service 15 minutes ago and there was nothing she could do. To be frank, I felt it was a bit inappropriate how much this staff member tried to convince me that "it's okay!" and to be excited about being able to access maybe 5% of the museum. I realize she was probably uncomfortable, but it's not my job to tell her it's okay, like I'm totally content not being able to access any of the art. It's not okay to discriminate against disabled people and you can't really sugar coat it.
When I realized I would not be able to access the museum, I nearly immediately went home. Another staff member noticed us and told me he would be right back, and a moment later he told me he would move the sign and we could use the elevator. I am very confused on if the elevator was ever truly out of service, because at the front desk she was firm that there was absolutely nothing she could do, but it seems the other staff member just moved a sign out of the way. I'm glad he did, because I enjoyed the museum a lot and it was totally accessible otherwise. The elevator appeared to be working perfectly fine, I'm not sure why I was initially going to be turned away.
