Stax Museum of American Soul Music的点评
点评：I'm not into blues or soul music. At least I wasn't until I visited Memphis recently and discovered the Stax Museum of American Soul Music, the Memphis Rock N' Soul Museum and the Blues Hall of Fame. Located at 926 East McLemore Avenue, the original location of Stax Records, the Stax Museum of American Soul Music is one of only a handful of museums in the world dedicated to soul music. The Motown Museum in Detroit is another. Established in 2003, it celebrates the legacy of Stax Records and its artists such as Isaac Hayes, Otis Redding, the Staple Singers, Booker T. & the MGs, Albert King, Wilson Pickett, Sam & Dave, Rufus and Carla Thomas and Johnnie Taylor. The 17,000-square-foot museum is a replica of the original Stax recording studio, the former Capitol Theatre, down to the sloping floor of Studio A. It features permanent and changing interactive exhibits, videos, films, photographs, original instruments used to record Stax hits, stage costumes, vintage recording gear and more than 3,000 items of memorabilia, including personal items that belonged to Stax Records stars. See the authentic circa-1906 Mississippi Delta church, reconstructed in the museum to help show the gospel roots of soul music. And the Soul Train dance floor. And Isaac Hayes' restored custom-built 1972 gold-trimmed, peacock-blue Cadillac Eldorado. Also Stax Records founder Jim Stewart's original violin, Skip Pitts' guitar, Floyd Newman's 100-year-old saxophone and the Academy Award statue that Isaac Hayes won for Best Musical Score for "Theme From Shaft" in 1972. If that isn't enough, visitors also are treated to vintage video footage of non-Stax artists such as Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, the Jackson Five, Patti LaBelle, Sam Cooke, James Brown and Ike & Tina Turner. It is a world-class tourist destination that helps fuel the Memphis tourism economy.
