This was my first time visiting Switzerland, and I was excited to start my journey in Interlaken, where we stayed at Hotel du Nord. Overall, this hotel offers an ideal central location that is perfect for travelers on a mid-range budget, only a 5-6 minute walk from the train station. I recommend downloading the SBB Mobile app to easily navigate local train and bus schedules – very convenient!
*Room Experience:*
When we first arrived, we were shown to a standard room, but it felt small and rather claustrophobic. Fortunately, we upgraded to a junior suite, and it was worth every penny! The views were simply breathtaking – panoramic scenes of the mountains, the charming streets, and even the paragliders landing nearby. Waking up to the sound of cowbells and horse carriages trotting by was an experience to remember.
However, I found the bathtub in the junior suite challenging. It was quite a task to get in and out, so I wouldn’t recommend this room to anyone over 65 or anyone with mobility concerns. Also, the amenities were quite basic: no shampoo or conditioner, only a wall-mounted body/hair wash dispenser, which was disappointing. There was a hand soap provided, but I felt the bathroom amenities could be improved.
*Service & Breakfast:*
The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. Just note that check-in is at 3 p.m., so if you arrive early, like we did, you may have to wait a bit. It would have been nice to have an earlier option. However, the breakfast was lovely – fresh, delicious, and served in a peaceful setting.

Hotel du Nord is a wonderful choice for those who prioritize location and scenic views. My advice would be to confirm room details in advance, especially regarding bathrooms. Overall, we enjoyed our stay, and with a few tweaks, this hotel could be perfect!
