点评:Not what I expected!
We signed up spur of the moment and even though the guy told me all about it- all the advisory statements about Claustrophobia and getting dirty… I didn’t know what to expect!!
We had to drive about 2-1/2 hrs that morning; I think our biggest worry was that we would have to use the bathroom when we were underground. It probably helped because then I wasn’t questioning What did I sign up for!
We had a generous amount of time from check in to start, so that helped use the restroom enough times that worry went away. Our guide gave us history and showed the original entry points. I wished we could have rappelled down but they don’t do that anymore. :(
We geared up- TIP: tighter fitting clothes are better than loose, to prevent slipping pads.
Heading down the stairs provided a great view of the cavern. We then climbed down a ladder which lead us to the tunnels.
It took me awhile to figure out HOW to use my body to maneuver through the tight spaces. It’s not just your arms, but knees and feet, leverage and shimmying … you’ll use muscles you did not know you had, get bruises on all your prominent bones, and you will definitely be sore a couple days later.
Afterwards I realized that the “rooms” are resting spots after the workout to get from room to room. The challenge IS getting through those tunnels. I wished I had taken photos during those areas, as those were the cool parts. And those were VERY COOL. The physical part of it mixed with innovative movement and leverage made each one interesting.
Never once did I feel claustrophobic or worry that I was so far below the surface.
Our tour guide was Maddy and she was calming, she knew just how to relate to the different “ages” and “abilities” of our small group. She was very experienced and made me comfortable immediately.
I thought I would never do that again… but I actually think I probably would.
