Jarlshof Prehistoric and Norse Settlement的点评
点评：I’ve been to Sakra Brae in Orkney and while it gets all the marketing, you should visit Jarlshof if you can. (To be clear do both!) I thought Jarlshof was just as well preserved and presented but far fewer people. You have free rein to wander, listen to the audio tour and investigate as much as you you like without anyone pushing you through.
I love that this site spans several eras from Pict to Nordic to Jacobite, there’s an evolution. For a history lover it was amazing to stand there and think about how the societies evolved on the site.
The 30 minutes drive was well worth it. Also take in the Sumburgh Head Lighthouse. And we went into the hotel for soup after our visit. It’s a bit in need of sprucing up but the staff was welcoming and the soup was house made.
