点评:On a rainy day in Keswick, with a poorly 7 year old and a toddler, we had a look on Tripadvisor for what on earth to do. A steam train and mining equipment - what could go wrong? And with those limited expectations, we were delighted. The tiny narrow gauge steam train was great - with cars (carriages sounds too grand) ranging from the completely open to the roofed and windowed (we, being nesh, chose the latter). The ride up the hill was lovely, and the talks at the top of the hill informative (though cold for said 7 year old and not particularly engaging for said toddler). We only looked at the machinery graveyard and quarry sides from the train, which was an experience of soggy and forlorn grandeur; sadly we didn't have the stamina to go for a walk among them in the rain. The tiny museum with its labour-of-love exhibits captivated the 7 year old (and the grandparents) and the collection of crystals and semi -precious stones was a delightful surprise.
