Good resting place with car park and view
Mirador del Risco de las Peñas的点评
点评：There are quite a few “Mirador” in this mountainous part of the island and it’s no surprise that a bit of confusion has arisen around the names. There are reviews on TA relating to this viewpoint incorrectly listed under “Mirador de Las Penitas” which is a bit closer to the village of Betancuria.
This viewpoint has a sizeable car park area and is recognizable by the large white “entrance gate” to the municipalities which border the landscape - Betancuria and Pajara.
Having travelled along some very steep, winding roads to get here you may just want to get out and admire where you have come from, or what lies ahead. There are some sections of the road which are single carriageway and if you meet anything coming in the opposite direction best to use your judgement as to how you are to progress. If it is a bus or truck I would be inclined to give way but fortunately you can see ahead for quite a bit and you should be able to avoid incidents. In our case we were traveling from Betancuria towards Pajara and therefore had the side of the road nearest “the drop” which had my wife as passenger a bit concerned at times! From the viewpoint it’s possible to look down and see a car wreck which has been there a while and obviously is one which didn’t manage to stay on the road (see photos).
Ignoring the many little chipmunk creatures running around looking for food from visitors, we took a walk across the rugged track to where there are a few rock formations and another very good view. At the time of our visit (December 2023) it was quite cool so the short walk wasn’t a hardship. We’ve done it previously in warmer conditions and that was a bit different - take some water.
