Great Hawaiian Sunset Hike

点评：This is a fairly easy 2.5-mile round trip hike with 475 feet of elevation gain that offers amazing views of the ocean and shoreline. However, it is especially a Hawaiian highlight at sunrise and sunset. As the easternmost point on Oahu, it is known for its sunrise, the first rays to hit the island. However, having visited at sunset, I can say it is just as incredible watching the skies when the sun goes down.
We decided to hike just before sunset as dusk was listed as a time you might see whales who are seen around Oahu December-March. We did not see any whales, but we did have an amazing hike with the best sunset of our trip. As the sun was going down, we did not go all the way to the end of the trail. Instead, we stopped about 3/4 up where the trail view transitions from a view north to an unobstructed view south of the ocean and Maui.
There were lots of people on the trail, but it never really felt crowded other than the parking lot. However, when we returned at twilight almost everyone was gone. Finally, one of the best things about this attraction is it was totally free including the parking, a rarity for Hawaii.
There is a reason AllTrails ranks this as the 4th best hike on Oahu and number seven for the entire state of Hawaii. I highly recommend you hike it and do it at sunrise or sunset.
