As someone completely new to the sport, I realized quickly that successful surfing requires two things: manageable ocean conditions and a teacher who is as skilled at instruction as they are at surfing. In my case, the waves were quite large for a first-timer, and the instructor was unfortunately not attuned to the situation or how to handle a beginner's needs in those conditions. I had to stop the lesson after 30 minutes as it felt too high-impact and 'muscular' for my goals.
I want to highlight that the club/school handled this with extreme professionalism. When I explained the situation, they were very understanding and provided a refund, which I truly appreciated. It shows they value their customers' safety and experience.
