点评：Schloss Mespelbrunn is one of those rare places that feels like it belongs in a storybook. Tucked away in the beautiful Spessart Forest between Frankfurt and Würzburg, this picturesque moated castle is surrounded by tranquil woodlands and reflected perfectly in the water that encircles it.
Built between 1412 and 1427, the castle is a remarkable example of late medieval and early Renaissance architecture. What makes it even more fascinating is that it has remained in the same family for roughly 600 years, an extraordinary legacy that brings the castle's history to life.
The guided 1-hour tour provided wonderful insight into both the building's history and the family that still calls it home. Today, the family's 80-year-old matriarch resides on the second floor of the right wing, while her daughter, the current owner, lives in the left wing. The next generation, the grandchildren in their early 20s, are expected to take over the estate in due course.
Unlike many historic castles that feel like museums, Schloss Mespelbrunn feels very much alive. Knowing that generations of the same family have lived here continuously for centuries adds a uniquely personal dimension to the visit. The rooms are beautifully preserved, the setting is enchanting, and the stories shared during the tour make history feel surprisingly intimate.
If you're traveling through Bavaria or between Frankfurt and Würzburg, Schloss Mespelbrunn is well worth a detour.
