点评:I recently stayed at Kalahari Wisconsin Dells and had an extremely frustrating experience involving their reservation system, confusing package names, lack of pricing transparency, and management's unwillingness to investigate what appears to have been a booking error.
Two weeks before our stay, I specifically selected the Fall Adventure Package, which cost approximately $100 more than the Autumn Savings Package but included $200 in resort credits.
I never received a confirmation email. Two days before our arrival, I called Kalahari to request one. The confirmation they eventually sent showed the correct total I expected to pay, but listed the rate plan as "Fall Savings."
Here's where Kalahari's confusing terminology becomes important. The two advertised packages were called "Fall Adventure" and "Autumn Savings." Since my confirmation said "Fall Savings," rather than "Autumn Savings," I reasonably assumed it referred to the Fall Adventure Package I had selected. After all, the total was correct. Why would I assume "Fall Savings" meant "Autumn Savings" rather than the package with "Fall" in its name?
The confirmation also didn't mention the included Tom Foolery's passes. I called back specifically to verify those passes and was assured they were included in my reservation.
The problems became apparent during our stay. When we arrived at Tom Foolery's, our wristbands didn't have the passes loaded onto them. We returned to the front desk, where they issued new wristbands with the passes. When I asked about our $200 in resort credits, however, I was informed that we had booked the savings package, which didn't include them.
I spoke with the manager, who insisted that I had booked the savings package. Yet he couldn't tell me what either advertised package actually cost on the date I booked. His explanation was that Kalahari uses dynamic pricing, so historical rates weren't available to him. Despite being unable to verify either package's price, he assured me I had paid the correct savings rate because he "could tell."
I also called Kalahari's central reservations department, which simply repeated that their system showed the savings plan. No one offered to investigate further.
The next morning, I approached the manager again. I explained that I had checked upcoming Sunday night rates through New Year's week, and not a single comparable regular rate came close to what I had paid. It made little sense that my particular Sunday night would cost approximately $100 more than the other upcoming Sundays, especially when I had specifically selected the more expensive package.
There was another troubling detail: the confirmation number generated when I originally booked through Kalahari's website wasn't recognized by their system.
Consider the combination:
- I specifically selected the Fall Adventure Package.
- The total matched what I expected for that package.
- My confirmation said "Fall Savings," although the other advertised package was called "Autumn Savings."
- The original confirmation number wasn't recognized.
- No confirmation email was automatically sent.
- Tom Foolery's passes were confirmed by phone and eventually provided at the resort, but weren't initially loaded onto our wristbands.
- The reservation nevertheless appeared in their system as a savings package, without the $200 in credits.
To me, these inconsistencies strongly suggest a possible reservation system error. The confusing package names only compound the problem. Whether intentional or simply poor design, calling one advertised package "Autumn Savings" while identifying the reservation as "Fall Savings" creates unnecessary ambiguity.
Yet nobody seemed willing or able to investigate.
Eventually, the manager asked me, "What do you want me to do?" I asked what options were available and what he could do to resolve the situation. His answer was essentially nothing. He wouldn't provide the credits, wouldn't adjust the price, and couldn't verify the original package rates.
What bothers me most isn't simply the missing $200 in credits. It's the complete lack of pricing transparency and accountability.
If Kalahari's reservation system makes an error, how is a customer supposed to prove it when the company cannot or will not retrieve the prices offered at the time of booking? How can management confidently insist that a customer paid the correct rate when they admit they cannot verify what that rate was?
I understand that resort pricing changes. What I don't understand is how a major resort can apparently have no way to investigate a disputed booking beyond repeating whatever package name currently appears in its system.
I paid what I believed was the Fall Adventure Package price, received some of its benefits, and was denied the $200 in credits that motivated me to purchase it in the first place.
Kalahari's response was essentially that whatever their system says must be correct, and the customer has no recourse.
For a resort of this size, that's unacceptable. I left feeling that if a booking error benefits Kalahari, the customer simply absorbs the loss.
I would strongly caution anyone booking one of Kalahari's promotional packages to take screenshots of every step, including the exact package name, included benefits, and final price. Apparently, even a confirmation email and a phone call verifying benefits may not be enough to protect you if something goes wrong.
This experience has seriously damaged my trust in Kalahari.

- Tom Foolery
