点评:I've been on many vineyard tours in my life, the best ones are always a mix of the people, place and the wines. Materramenta shines on all three of these aspects. And then you can add a fantastic, house made meal that shows off the region's cuisine. Definitely one of the best vineyard experiences of my life.
To begin, the vineyards showcase the unique wine growing method of Biscoitos that involves the vinter planting each vine in its own pit made of volanic rock. Even though the vineyard is relatively small, our tour led by a young graduate student was very informative and engaging. She shared the history of the vineyard itself along with the history of wine making in the Biscoitos region. After the tour vineyard owners Luis and Magdalena presented their delicious wines made from each of Materramenta's Azores vineyards. With each island having such a unique geography and history, we got the real sense and taste of terroir. And then came the meal filled with housemade Terceiran dishes. From the fresh grilled limpets to the filling alactra (stewed beef), everything was fantastic.
