点评：Beatriz Parreira gave us an excellent and informative tour of one of the vineyards and wineries here on Terceria Island, Materramenta.
Because of the climate, the volcanic soil conditions and the close proximity to the ocean, only two types of grapes do well in the Azores, Verdelho and Arinto. - both of which are white grapes.Materramenta, however, does offer a red wine that is a Portuguese traditional wine.
The winery is located in Biscoitos in the northern part of Terceira Island. To honor the first owner of the wines’ vineyard lands, it was named Materramenta. Luís Vasco Cunha and his wife, Madeleine Rocha, obtained the vineyards from her family.
Their wine making initially was more of a hobby. In 2016, the wine making developed into a business.
Materramenta combines centuries-old Azorean winemaking skills with modern techniques while focusing on the unique grape growing conditions of the volcanic soil and Atlantic Ocean.
We do recommend this as part of time on Terceira Island.
