Beautiful Grounds, Amazing Staff....but disappointing in many ways

点评：Went for a special couples retreat. Spa, overnight stay, evening meal, breakfast and afternoon tea.
The grounds and history of the building are breathtaking. With history running back to 11th Century!
Spa experience was great and the staff were amazing and friendly. The Thermal Spa and Steam Room were great and when we went it was peaceful and quiet. When we finished we went into a waiting area before our treatments and the room was quite small and crowded which wasn't very relaxing. However, the treatment was superb and the mud Spa experience was awesome.
The evening meal though really let the whole stay down....Once again the staff were lovely...and the menu was exciting....however the execution of the food wasn't great. My pork belly was rubbery and my wife's duck, was tough, the dauphinoise was cold and asparagus raw. Breakfast was lovely although a bit basic for a 4*.
We stayed in a suite, which was very 'period' which was both nice but also a little rundown eg. Peeling wallpaper, wobbly and marked furniture but the bed was comfy and we had loads of space.
Overall, there was loads to love about Hazelwood Castle and I can't fault the staff at all who were all happy, welcoming, smiling, friendly and attentive.
