点评:One of four family members visiting Panama had ranked the Biomuseo at the top of his must-see list for Panama City, so we decided to kill two birds in one visit. The museum happens to be one of the stops for the hop-on, hop-off tour bus and has sufficient free parking in the adjacent lot. So we drove here from our hotel, parked, and spent time exploring while awaiting the tour bus.
Admission to the grounds and to Level One is free. Since we're all a bunch of flower freaks, we spent the first half hour traipsing around the property taking photos and learning about the various types of flora planted here. One area is especially attractive to butterflies and another attracts hummingbirds, so we got to watch these beautiful creatures flitting among the flowers. And the museum is situated right at the northern edge of the Amador Causeway, so we had a bird's eye view of passing ships and smaller boats from the paved walkway behind the museum.
We began checking out the ground level of the museum, which highlights the very early history of Panama, dating back to pre-humanity, and decided we wouldn't have enough time to explore the entire building before the bus's next scheduled stop. So we spent the remaining time reading the displays on the bottom floor, for which there is no admission charge. We also didn't realize that the museum closed so early (3:00), and that the last admission is one hour before closing. So we wouldn't have time to return the same day and see the upper floors.
Admission is $10 per adult if you're a resident of Panama and $20 if you are not. Non-resident seniors pay $16 (with proof of age) and minors pay $12. Or, if you have a group of four people (like ours), you can purchase group admission for $60.
I would have liked to see more of the museum, but we did get a good feel for its essence via the botanical gardens and the history displays on the ground level. And what we did observe is beautifully done.
