点评:I’m quite pleased I didn’t read the reviews of the bookshop and cafe because it would have put me off but our experience didn’t mirror those before us. It was our first time in Boston and we visited the store on NYE.
The bookshop itself is quite small, a converted three storey townhouse with old English charm. Yes, tables being placed in front of larger shelves does make the browsing experience a bit disjointed and if the shop had been busy it could have been an unpleasant shopping experience, but as it was an early morning the store was nearly empty and a pleasure to browse. The book selection is great and pleasing on the eye - it certainly isn’t a Barnes & Noble in terms of scale but it had a quaint charm that reminded us of Bath, UK.
The cafe
Again, the reviews on here are quite scathing and I can understand people’s point of view however our experience was quite the opposite. We hadn’t booked, got a counter table, quickly ordered some lovely winter spiced oatmeal and a warm blueberry muffin (not overly sweet) and it was delicious. The place settings and decor were gorgeous.
This certainly isn’t a quick bite sort of bookshop cafe. It didn’t look appealing to wait on the stairs for a takeaway coffee but the sit-in experience that we had was good.
