点评:I cannot speak highly enough of the experience we had at Rapids Camp. The staff was attentive and friendly and the food excellent. We stayed in a bazuka tent, but next time we will stay in the on-site rooms, which looked extremely spacious and comfortable. The sounds of the rapids and the rain lulled us to sleep.
The site at Rapids Camp is beautiful, situated at the end of a large rapid (hence the name of the camp) and a massive waterfall.
The 11-km rafting trip down the Sagan River began with ride in an old matatu to the put in site on the fast-flowing Sagana (upper Tana) River. The whitewater quickly began and was almost non-stop, including several large and literal "drops". While I am an experienced boatman and kayaker, I've never taken a paddle raft down some of the stuff we did. Ramadan and Eric were excellent guides on our trip, as well as the boatmen in the safety raft. After we had completed the rafting, we performed the "waterfall challenge", where the bow of the raft with me and my fiancé Purity experienced the massive power of the waterfall cascading over us. Purity, who does not know how to swim, was convinced by Ramadan and Eric to swim, hanging on to the raft. She even drifted through some whitewater...so very brave.
The kayaking was fun, but I wish they had let us use the inflatable craft (for some reason, the staff did not think of these as kayaks), because they are more stable. Purity would have enjoyed it more I think - this was her first time kayaking on a river and the current was pretty swift due to the rains.
One of the staff members who served us our meals deserves special attention as well. She was friendly, attentive, and informative. She went out of her way to make sure we had a good meal experience. Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name.
I wish that there had been some opportunity to purchase a memento of our trip - a t-shirt, hat, or something like that. I always try to get a shirt or hat when I use guiding companies. Having something from doing whitewater in Kenya to wear back in the States would have been super nice.
This was one of the greatest whitewater experiences of my life...and I've done the Grand Canyon in Arizona. Thanks to the staff at Rapids Camp for making it happen. We will be back.
Rapids Camp
