Ten Years, Two Trips, and One Stolen Top Hat: My Waterfront Park Journey

点评：The first and only other time I visited this park was almost 10 years ago, back in July 2014. I even wrote a Tripadvisor review. Back then, I visited the Overlook, Gracehoper Sculpture, and Great Lawn areas. Even though it was very close in proximity, I somehow missed the Tetra sculpture. Another interesting piece of art that I missed back then was the Flock of Finns, colorful 28-piece metal bird sculptures. In May 2014, it was temporarily moved to Oberlin, Ohio for professional conservation due to rust and weather damage.
On this trip, my wife and I drove and parked at the Lincoln Memorial lot. It was mostly empty, except for the random woman who decided it was the perfect place to wash her SUV. We walked down to the water to check out the waterfront and the many bridges. Then, we followed the pathway to the Lincoln Memorial, which features an 8-foot statue of our nation's 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, seated on a rock overlooking the Ohio River. It was dedicated in 2009 as part of the bicentennial celebration of Lincoln's birth. Sadly, Lincoln's bronze top hat was stolen from the statue in early December 2023. It was replaced in June 2024 with a $17,000 replica hat, alongside new security cameras focused on the statue.
Other things to do at this FREE, public, Waterfront Park on a future trip include taking a ride on the Belle of Louisville, walking across the Big Four Bridge at night to see the rainbow display of multi-color LED lights, or catching a concert at 91.9 WFPK's Waterfront Wednesdays on the Big Four Lawn.
