点评:It is true that this property is not like Monticello or Mount Vernon, the house that is on the site was never owned or lived in by Monroe. The house he did live in was burned to the ground after he sold it. They have found what they believe to be remnants of the foundation from that house, and believe the present house was built over part of that foundation. The house is set up as if the Monroe’s had lived there with some authentic furniture. The gardens are beautiful and we were treated to a visit from Colonel Monroe himself the day we were there. He gave us very interesting talk about his life and the time he lived in, and answered our questions about the Monroe Doctrine and the Louisiana Purchase, which he had a big hand in settling. It’s not as grand as some of the other houses we visited but it was still interesting and a beautiful property to visit.
