I just completed 6 days in the Omo Valley with Wild Ethiopia Tours and I'm still processing everything I saw, heard and felt. This is one of those trips that genuinely shifts your perspective on the world.
Starting in Jinka and ending in Arba Minch, we visited 9 different tribes over 6 days — each with their own language, traditions and way of life that has survived for centuries largely untouched. The Kara and their intricate body painting along the banks of the Omo River, the remote Dassanech, the resilient Arbore, the UNESCO-recognized Konso with their terraced landscapes and elaborate traditions, and finally the Dorze highlands where master weavers work inside extraordinary bamboo houses. Every single stop felt like entering a different world. And then the final morning on Lake Chamo — watching crocodiles and hippos move through the waters of the Great Rift Valley — was a stunning, unexpected finale to an already incredible journey.
But the heart of this trip was our guide Berek. Honestly, he made everything. Knowledgeable, warm, endlessly patient and deeply connected to the communities we visited, he didn't just translate — he gave context, history and meaning to every encounter.
