点评：The Georgetown Loop Railroad provides a fine short steam train ride through the mountains, with an optional silver mine tour in the middle of your train ride. The train ride is short enough and with enough whimsical highlights (Sasquatch makes a number of appearances along the tracks) to appeal to small children. There's also a stop at the Railroad's maintenance base in Silver Plume for a chance to visit a Museum filled with retired classic railroad cars.
The scenic highlight is the high (~100 feet tall) trestle bridge that allows the train to cross over itself during its brief (~4 miles) run. This Railroad was originally built in the 1870's to service the Clear Creek's silver & gold mines. The last mines played out in the 1920s, and eventually the entire railroad was abandoned in 1939. But by 1973 local officials realized they were missing out on a great tourist site, and so the Railroad was rebuilt on its original right-of-way (thankfully using 1973-era construction standards).
This is a popular attraction; you can expect big crowds during the peak tourist season (such as summer). Parking is limited and could be a problem at peak periods, I came early for an afternoon departure and got one of the last spaces.
The underground silver mine tour is worth the extra cost & time; you'll see how all the silver ore was dug out of the mountains and how dangerous this work was. Note the tune;s were built for 19th Century miners (who tended to be 5' 2" → 5' 6"; anyone taller that 5' 8" will need that hard hat safety helmet & will need to stoop down to aviator hitting your head on the low-hanging tunnel roof.
Note there's limited food available onsite: just a few snacks & drinks inside the Railroad's gift shop. Bring your own food or eat @ nearby Georgetown's restaurants if you want a decent lunch.
