点评:This is one of Colorado's most revered sites: the 1878 opera house that continues to provide world-class performances in a classic mining-town setting. We came here to take in the opening-night performance of Douglas Moore's "The Ballad of Baby Doe", which had its premiere in this very building in 1956. Interestingly the historical Baby Doe Tabor was a resident of Central City at the time that the opera house celebrated its opening. Despite its age, however, this is a thoroughly up-to-date venue that has air conditioning (which, at 8500 ft. altitude, wasn't needed despite serious heat down in Denver at the time). Its restrooms are ample and modern. And the charming gardens on either side of the building are great for relaxing and meeting opera patrons. If you have the change, don't miss the opportunity to enjoy first-class music in this unique old-west setting.
