点评:One star because I have to give one, otherwise it was 0. Before visiting the Sapanca Cable Car, we checked the ticket prices on the official website. Imagine our surprise when we arrived at the lower station and were told the tickets would cost 1,150 TRY for a return trip, while the official website clearly listed 450 TRY for a round-trip ticket. Nowhere on the website does it state that these prices are only for Turkish citizens or that tourists pay a different rate.
When we questioned the cashier about the discrepancy, she turned around a price board that had been facing away from us when we arrived and claimed that the online prices were for students only. This explanation made no sense, as student prices are listed separately on the official website. The whole situation felt extremely misleading and, frankly, like an attempt to overcharge tourists.
Things became even stranger when we asked to buy a one-way ticket because we planned to hike back down. We were initially told that this was impossible and that hiking down was far too dangerous. However, there is plenty of information online showing that this hike is perfectly feasible. Only after we questioned this explanation further were we suddenly told that buying a one-way ticket was in fact possible. So apparently it wasn't impossible after all.
In the end, we decided not to buy any tickets. It wasn't about the money, it was about the principle and the feeling that we were being treated unfairly simply because we were tourists.
Unfortunately, the experience didn't end there. Our car was parked in the underground parking garage, where a sign clearly states that the first 20 minutes are free. We were there for no more than 10 minutes, yet the parking attendant still tried to charge us 100 TRY. Only after we pointed out the sign did they let us leave without paying. Had we not challenged it, we would have been overcharged once again.
What I don't understand is why a region that maybe wants to attract more international visitors would allow practices like this. Experiences like these don't just damage the reputation of one attraction, they leave visitors with a negative impression of the entire region.
Our visit to Sapanca ended with a very bitter taste. It's a beautiful area, but based on our experience, I would strongly advise future visitors to double-check everything and be cautious when visiting the cable car.
