Melton's Markets have lost their sparkle
Melton Town Market的点评
点评：Several years ago I wrote a review about Melton Mowbray street and antique markets. Then I couldn't say enough good things about both.
Unfortunately, things are totally different now. The street market has only about three quaters of the stalls it once had; this is probably due to the closure of so many shops in Melton and with so many empty buildings there is no longer a real reason to visit the town, even on market day.
The antique market at the Stockyard no longer exists as it once did. There are a few brave traders who still turn out on a weekly basis, but practically half of the tables/pitches are empty and the occupied ones are mainly non antique related. Even the cheerful voice emanating from the weekly meat truck can't make this sad excuse of a market any better.
What used to be a lovely morning out has just become a waste of time. I know the Council has big plans for the Stockyard, but these seem to already have had a negative impact on what exists or should that be existed.
I imagine anyone making a special trip to visit the markets currently would feel nothing but disappointment. It's such a shame.
