A sparkling gem of Russian artisanship lying off the beaten tourist paths

点评：I went out of my way to visit that museum in early September. Kholuy is a collection of countryside dwellings about 90 kilometers to the south of Ivanovo and ca. 320 kilometers to the north-east of Moscow. I drove there from Ivanovo, of course.
But here it's necessary to deconstruct just another translation blunder TA's AI "interpreters" are so notorious for.
In Russian, Kholuy, with the stress on the first syllable, i.e., as it's pronounced in this case, means, first, the name of a village and, second, a type of fishing gear. While, if pronounced with a stress on the second syllable, it really means "groveler" or, to be more precise, "lackey", "flunkey", or even "bootlicker". See the gaffe? Thus, the object's correct name must be "Kholuy Art Museum" or, better, the Museum of Kholuy Miniature.
Every educated Russian knows this toponym. Handicraft miniature paintings made in Kholuy with tempura on varnished boxes of papier-mâché are considered fantastic gifts and, to my mind, epitomize folk art of my country.
The museum is gorgeous. Interval! I employed a Russian-speaking guide, of course, to gain the best from my visit. (But, as far as I can judge, they offer English-speaking ones too.) Some modest shopping crowned the tour.
Highly recommended. A must! Never hesitate going there, you'll love your trip, hands down! Foreigners, however, should plan ahead a bit, preferably with the help of someone local.
