Stylish craft beer venue in Old Funchal

点评：There is an absolute dearth of decent beer in Funchal. The local brew is Coral, which for a seasoned craft beer drinker like my husband is akin to drinking the washing-up water. This bar and coffee shop is an unassuming first-floor venue on the Avenida do Mar in Funchal, just down from the Teleferico. It’s very stylishly decorated and the guy behind the bar is a very friendly, very knowledgeable barman who is more than happy to recommend a beer to your taste. It may be a little more costly than Coral, but definitely worth it! They also serve speciality coffees which are delicious, with a small but carefully curated offering of sweet treats. There is a limited amount of seating indoors in the upstairs bar, but there are a few tables and low stools on the balcony- ideal for watching the world go by with a decent beer in your hand. You are also invited to take a woven ‘rug’ ( BIG placemat, really) from a tub on the stairs for you to take your beer and sit outside on the grass. There are a few stylish orange tables and chairs on the pavement outside the bar entrance, too. It’s a very different offering to the other bars and eateries along this main drag in the old town and highly recommended.
