May Kim is a one-of-a-kind guide, and by taking this tour, you help May Kim support local minority families. Being able to talk with her - kind, clever, with a surprisingly good English level, and from a vastly different culture - is something we valued immensely.
We did a two-day (one-night) tour. We started in Sapa - May Kim ensured we had everything we needed for the trek. She showed us breathtaking scenery while patiently and enthusiastically answering our never-ending stream of questions. She has a contagious positivity and love for her culture that you can't put a price tag on - invaluable!
After a morning trekking, we had lunch at the home of a local minority family. The family gets a share of the tour profits, which - as you will see - greatly helps them. May Kim is trying to get more people to do these tours so that she can help more local families in need, a commendable project.
After more trekking, we arrived at the village where she grew up and had a great dinner with her family. They also offered us to take a traditional Red Dao herbal bath, a surprising and relaxing experience.
The next day, we did more trekking - and asked even more questions - and we had lunch in another village. May Kim arranged everything we needed to return to Hanoi and even booked a bus for us, again making sure we had what we needed.
Be ready to walk quite a bit, with some difficult and muddy terrain from time to time (but that's part of the fun). That said, May Kim is flexible and offered us to take easier routes when we needed it.
100% recommended; we can't imagine a better experience in Sapa.
