点评:Visited in August to see the steam trains but unfortunately due to the current dry weather and fire risks the steam trains were not running. We were however pleasantly surprised to ride on the Diesel railcar which we had not travelled in previously. We parked in the car park in the designated disabled parking area but noticed others were able to park closer by going past the disabled parking area and turn right onto an upper space of grass. From the actual disabled parking area you have a walk on rough pebbles to a concrete ramp then up towards the station. If you have a wheelchair or wheeled walker it may be easier to get dropped off to avoid the walk up the ramp and over the crossing to the station.
Having paid for our tickets we headed to the platform. The staff on site are very friendly and helpful and as I had a walker assisted me onto the railcar, the other nice touch was the very knowledgeable ticket inspectors greeting everyone and entering into conversations. We travelled from Tenterton to Bodium where there is a stopover for some to walk to the National Trust run Bodium Castle but not long enough to visit the castle and return on the same train. There are plans to add a further stretch of track down to Robertsbridge which is well under way but needs additional funding. We travelled back to Tenterton and went to the restaurant where they do varied cooked meals, sandwiches, cakes and hot and cold drinks. The food is well cooked and good value for money.
Disabled toilets on site and display of model railway and other signs and carriages on show. The shop is well stocked and worth a visit. From the station you head back to the car park and have the opportunity to visit the (free) museum which is well laid out and in my opinion not to be missed.
A great day out and well worth the fares charged. Best we have visited to date for friendliness keep an eye out for their special events when they have their Pullman coach’s in use.
