点评:A fantastic production let down by an unforgivable failure of basic care
The production itself was fabulous — the acting superb, the staging brilliant. That is where the praise ends.
The heat inside the auditorium was dangerous. My husband and I, along with many other patrons, were physically unable to return after the interval because of the temperature. People were fainting. One lady collapsed just before the interval began. My husband, a doctor, ended up attending to two people who had nearly passed out — and I made staff aware of this directly.
When I raised the issue with several staff members, they openly admitted they already knew there was a problem and that it was "being looked into." That is not good enough. This was not a one-off surprise; the venue knew it was packing an audience into a space with inadequate ventilation and let it happen anyway.
If livestock were transported or housed in those conditions, the RSPCA would have shut the place down. That a theatre can subject paying customers to that same heat, with people losing consciousness, and treat it as business as usual, is inexcusable.
We were forced to leave at the interval, missing the second half entirely, and walked back to our hotel simply to recover in fresh air — there was no possibility of going back inside.
A brilliant production, ruined by a venue that knowingly puts its audience's safety and comfort last. I will not be returning to this theatre.
