Much more than a car rental – an unforgettable experience of Crete!

点评：During our holiday at Zeus Eleva, we rented a car from Livas for four days to explore the eastern side of Crete. What started as a simple car rental turned into one of the most memorable parts of our entire holiday, and the reason we've already decided to return to this beautiful island!
First, the car itself was excellent. Crete is a mountainous island, with steep climbs, sharp bends and narrow, winding roads. The car handled everything brilliantly, giving us the confidence to explore places well beyond the usual tourist routes.
But what truly made this experience exceptional was Nikos, one of the owners of this family run business.
Nikos didn't simply hand us the keys and recommend a few places to visit. He took the time to understand our interests and created four personalised day trips, one for each day of our rental. Every route was thoughtfully planned to introduce us to a different side of Crete, combining its mythology, fascinating history, breathtaking landscapes, traditional cuisine and, most importantly, its people and culture.
Each day seemed to surpass the previous one!
His recommendations took us through beautiful mountain villages, spectacular scenery, stunning beaches and hidden gems that most organised tourist groups would never reach. Some of these places are simply inaccessible to larger vehicles, while others are best experienced at your own pace, without the pressure of a fixed tour schedule.
And that freedom made all the difference.
We found ourselves enjoying authentic local food, chatting with small shop owners, and simply sitting in the shade, sipping traditional Greek coffee and soaking up the atmosphere of village life. These were not just sightseeing stops; they were genuine opportunities to connect with the island and its people. Experiences that no crowded coach tour could ever quite recreate.
What impressed us even more was Nikos's approach to planning. Each day included a carefully considered route, with places he strongly recommended visiting and additional options if time allowed. There was always flexibility to follow our curiosity.
As it turned out, we never managed to complete everything he suggested! Not because the itineraries were unrealistic, but because we kept falling in love with the places we discovered. A quick stop would turn into a long conversation, a coffee would become an experience, and a beautiful view would make us want to stay just a little longer.
That, to me, is what travelling should be about.
I've rented cars in many places over the years, but I have never experienced this level of personal attention and genuine care. Nikos offers something that goes far beyond what you would normally expect from a car rental company, and arguably beyond what many travel agencies can provide.
My advice to anyone considering renting a car from Livas: don't just book a car and drive away. Take the time to sit down with Nikos, tell him what interests you, what you enjoy, and what you'd love to discover. Let him help you plan your days. His local knowledge, thoughtful recommendations and passion for his island can completely transform your holiday.
