25/7 trip to Kingswear, Devon - very pleased we did it

点评：Firstly, before our trip we were emailed to say that due to the recent hot weather we would be pulled by a diesel train instead of a steam engine as this is what Network Rail had said must happen. VERY disappointing, but not SD fault. Then we were told our train could not stop at Paignton station due to a recent fire caused by arsonists, so we had to continue down the line to Kingswear for Dartmouth. Again, not SD fault, but disappointing again.
Anyway, we were in H carriage &, thankfully, this one had air conditioning that they were trialling. It worked a treat. The seats were very comfortable & the staff very attentive. We were asked on numerous occasions if we wanted tea & coffee. We took our own food & drink, but hubby did have the coffee, which he said was tasty - & he is Mr Fussy when it comes to coffee! The snack boxes provided for the way there & back were very good. We had a delicious cream tea on the return journey, which wasn’t too filling - just the right amount.
The train ran to time there & back. It was a very long day (18 hours), but the helpfulness & politeness of the staff didn’t falter.
This was an expensive treat for us, but worth it. The heritage train was really lovely & we would recommend using Steam Dreams.
