点评:Brooklyn Navy Yard is a huge site with a long history stretching back to the beginning of the 19th century and was active until the mid 1960s. After some ups and downs it now seems to be a thriving home for various businesses and industries again, and one of the old buildings is dedicated to a free exhibition of the yard's history. It was bigger than I expected, spread over 3 floors. There are some model ships and a few artefacts but most of the displays consist of photographs and written text - all very interesting though, especially the timeline by the entrance. I wish more of the "old" site was visitable - I was interested to read about the large former hospital complex in the yard, and apparently many of these historic buildings are still standing but derelict. It is around a 20 minute walk to York St subway station, but I went there by ferry from Wall St pier (the Astoria ferry route) - it was about 10 minutes' sailing then a 10 minute walk through the navy yard to get the the exhibition building.
