点评:If one purpose of a historic house is to provide the visitor with a thirst for more information on the former resident, this museum is a runaway success story. I left wanting to know more about Katherine Mansfield and to familiarise myself with her writing. The famous NZ author only lived in the house for the first 4-5 years of her life, so the connection to her is actually a little slender. But the museum's curators have done a superb job in recreating the building as it was in about 1900 by removing post-Victorian era additions like bay windows. Scrapes of original wallpaper have been revealed to indicate the original colour schemes. The furnishings and household items from the times when the Beauchamp (Mansfield's maiden name) family lived in the place have long gone, but again the curators have done a brilliant job and assembling pieces from the Victorian era that set off the house perfectly. To me though the house's highlight was the timeline of Katherine Mansfield's life set out around the walls of one of the upstairs bedrooms. She led an extraordinary (if short) life that makes compelling reading
