点评:We visited Melbourne Museum during the April 2026 school holidays, and the buzz of families and kids everywhere only added to the energy of the place — it felt like exactly the kind of institution it's supposed to be.
The Forest Gallery is genuinely immersive — a living recreation of Victoria's forest ecosystems, complete with tall eucalypts and rare live wildlife, including Tawny Frogmouth. It's one of those spaces that surprises you with how much atmosphere it creates indoors. From there, the Dinosaur Walk delivers — 17 prehistoric skeletons including the world's largest marsupial Diprotodon and Australia's largest lizard Megalania, with animated reconstructions and hands-on exhibits that let you touch dinosaur teeth and feel a thigh bone from a 25-tonne sauropod. Impressive at any age.
There was also a Roman exhibition running during our visit, which we didn't have time to explore — worth factoring in if you're planning a longer stay.
Entry for children is free, and the permanent galleries are included with standard adult admission, making it an exceptional value. During school holidays, book ahead and arrive early to beat the crowds in the popular galleries.
