点评:We spent two nights here, and honestly, that felt like more than enough. We arrived mid-day, rented a car, and I can’t emphasize this enough—rent a car. Having the freedom to explore on your own schedule, especially for sunrise and sunset, made a huge difference. The roads are excellent, driving on the left is surprisingly easy, and even navigating in the dark felt completely manageable. You’ll just need to purchase a park pass to enter.
The rental car was expensive, but in our opinion, absolutely worth it—especially compared to the cost (and quality) of the tours and organized experiences, which we found overpriced and underwhelming.
Be prepared: it’s hot, and the flies are next-level relentless. We ended up buying fly nets and wore them anytime we were outside. Even then, every time we got back in the car, we’d spend several minutes swatting flies that had followed us in.
We stayed at the Lost Camel Hotel—clean, comfortable, and perfectly fine for a short stay. That said, bugs are part of the experience. Expect everything from ants to beetles in your room. The hotel provides insect spray, which you’ll likely use.
We also splurged on the Field of Light Dinner. It was very expensive, and if we could do it again, we’d skip it and opt for a nice dinner at Sails in the Desert instead. The dinner and light display were just okay—nothing particularly memorable. Between the bugs and eating in near darkness, it wasn’t the experience we had hoped for, and the light installation didn’t quite deliver the “wow” factor we expected in such a dramatic setting.
Overall, this was the only part of our 2+ week Australia trip that felt like a miss. Compared to many of the breathtaking national parks in the U.S., it just didn’t measure up—especially given the high cost. Interestingly, many Australians we met along the way said they hadn’t even visited Uluru themselves. I think they realize it may just be a tourist trap!
And one last thing… the flies. Truly something else.
