Inconvenient Operating Hours for a Visitor Center. Check first!

点评：The signs on Interstate 10 indicated that this Deming TX exit led to a visitor center and a museum. We were on a long drive and needed a stretch, picnic spot, and bathroom. The promise of a museum was an added plus. We arrived around 1:00 pm on a Saturday. which would seem to be a reasonable time for a visit to a visitor center.
Nope. Closed. The center and museum are open weekdays only - and only to early afternoon on Fridays. Closed on weekends.
This is a message to the Deming Chamber of Commerce or to whatever agency or organization sponsors this site: have it open when visitors visit! Your centers hours are bankers’ hours, not the hours to welcome people to your city. No water, no benches, no open restrooms, no picnic tables, no trash cans … and nobody home. I appreciate the effort, but luring visitors with your signs, dragging them 2 miles through town to a closed visitor center, and then requiring 2 more miles to return to their route does not create a favorable impression.
For starters, how about posting visitor center hours on your interstate sign? That way, travelers will know whether there’s a restroom at the end of the rainbow. I’ve seen these signs on interstates elsewhere.
