点评:Pointe des Chateaux is probably the most well-known spot in Guadeloupe. It’s at the end of a long stretch of road past St. Francois. There’s plenty of parking on the road, but you might need to walk a little. There’s one rise a few steps from the parking lot that provides a landscape view of the “chateaux” and Les Desirades island. A walking trail with a short but steep staircase leads to the cross and overlook of the chateaux, as well as views of all other Guadeloupe islands. This takes 15 minutes. If you hike out to the little-visited “Chaise,” you get a view of the other side of the Pointe and a marine arch against which waves crash violently. This is a tougher hike through brush and overlook corals to get back to the main trail, but still only about 30 additional minutes.
One warning about this site is to beware the wild dogs. I am a dog lover and am fine around strange friendly dogs. But I was startled by a pack of three dogs that approached me from behind and started barking at me while I was reading a sign. I backed away as they continued to snarl at me and approach aggressively. I’ve never seen that behavior from dogs that hadn’t been provoked. Another review suggests my experience was not an aberration, unfortunately.
Another piece of advice is to bring cash for the coconut custard served at a kiosk near the parking lot. I didn’t have any cash and missed out!
