点评:It’s hard to believe that the space of the park was a reaped and finished sand and gravel quarry just 15 years back. The re-wilding and earthworks are amazing, building up semi-secluded areas leading from the car park and cafe back to the lake and an in-progress roman fort recreation. There’s fantastic wildlife and native plants that you can walk among, or head to the lake for a swim or to paddle board about if you prefer. There’s also a few amazing “just sit and enjoy the nature” spots around the lake, including a secluded bench perfect for taking in a late summer sunset.
The roman fort area is amazing - more so when re-enactors are on site, but I was told that for a group setting that could all be arranged with sufficient notice. They work with groups, including schools, for an impressive hands-on type learning experience about UK-roman history. Even without anyone there, is inspiring for the scope and the experimental/experiential archeology that it brings forth. Earlier in the walk more iron age details were under progress.
I can’t wait to come back and see more as it develops!
