点评:I visited the International African American Museum in downtown Charleston , SC with my mother. My visit was attached to a project for a linguistics class I was taking in my graduates study. Needless to say this visit was even better than what I was expecting. The lesson regarding the journey of the enslaved Africans began before going into the museum. I believe having the ancestral graden and Tide Tribute at the wharf causes visitors to immediately tap into the seriousness and inhumaneness of this historical period before entering the museum. Absolutely amazing! The exhibits are very well planned out and the division of periods as you move through exhibits show the intentionality that the museum was created with. I loved the areas that shared Gullah-Gechee culture and that told diverse family stories through visuals. I also thought the small studio that could be used to record your family's story/memory etc was a great idea. I adored how engaging the experience is for visitors and plan on visiting again to dig deeper into the exhibits and record portions of my y family's story. Excellent museum.
